Donald E. Raney

Donald Eugene Raney, age 87, passed away March 21, 2024, at Aperion Care Center in DeKalb, Illinois. He was the oldest of five children born to Jesse and Mildred (Freeman) Raney on February 18, 1937, in Rockford, Illinois and was raised in Mount Morris, Illinois.
After graduating from Mount Morris High School, Don worked at Watts Printing in Mount Morris and later he worked many years as a pressman technician in the printing services department at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. 
He married Shirley Ringler on June 19, 1965. Don was a devoted husband to his wife Shirley. Together they joined in many celebrations for extended family and friends. Because Don enjoyed taking photographs, he was the one who documented on film special events such as birthdays, graduations, and weddings. He and Shirley also enjoyed attending regional festivals and parades.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Shirley and her brother LeRoy, and three of his siblings, Dorothy Wood and her husband James, Douglas Raney, and Darlene Jacobs and her husband Irvin. 
He is survived by his brother Darrell (Judy) Raney of Mount Morris, IL, sister-in-law Darlene Raney of Oregon, IL, sister-in-law Susan Ringler of Aurora, IL, and many nieces and nephews. 
A funeral service for Don will be held on Thursday, March 28th, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon. The service will begin at 11:00, with visitation being held one hour prior to the service. 
Memorial gifts may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Special thanks are extended to the medical professionals who gave Don dedicated care, to the staff at Aperion Care who both cared for and showed him great kindness, and to the many friends and family who visited, called, and assisted Don in recent years. His life was enriched and made healthier because of their efforts and it is greatly appreciated.
